How to Maintain a Commercial Walk in Cooler
Congratulations! You have made a long-term investment in your commercial walk in cooler! Now, regular preventative maintenance is key to prolonging its life so it continues to run for years to come!
The Condensing Unit Is an Important Factor
This is what houses the compressor, condensing coil, and fan motor. These are all vital components that keep your unit running. The condensing unit is often located on top of your walk-in cooler, or even beneath the unit, depending on the model you bought. Once you have located the condensing unit, the cleaning process is fairly simple. Once a month, turn off the power to your walk-in cooler condensing unit. You can now vacuum all the dust and debris that will have accumulated. Reversing the airflow of a shop vac tends to be more effective than vacuuming alone.
Clean the Surfaces of the Cooler
About once a month, clean the in and outside surfaces using a mild detergent and water solution. The interior of your walk-in cooler can be cleaned using a mild solution of bleach and water.
Don’t Forget the Evaporator Fan
There is an evaporator fan assembly in your walk-in cooler which circulates the air and removes the heat. This will also collect water and drain it away. This assembly must be cleaned and sanitized at least once a year. To clean the evaporator fan you will need to turn off the power to the walk-in cooler. Also, it is recommended that you remove the drain pan to gain access to all components, as they are easier to clean.
Take Good Care of the Door Seals
Once a year, you will also want to clean and inspect the walk-in cooler door seals. The seals must always be pliable and create a tight seal. If they tear or become brittle with age, you should have them replaced. The above tips for preventative maintenance for your walk-in cooler can be done by yourself.
